7 Quick & Simple Ways to Refresh Your Style in 2019

Updating your look and refreshing your style doesn’t have to mean breaking the bank on a pair of statement heels or a new perm. Sometimes it’s as simple as looking at what you’ve got and working with it, whether that’s your hair, your outfit, or your life in general.

2019 is going to be all about renewal and rejuvenation for a lot of people, so in that spirit, here are 7 quick and easy ways to change things up for the new year.

1. Get a New Phone Case

It’s natural for phone cases to deal with a lot of wear and tear, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep your dingy, worn out case for another year. If you’re like most people, your phone is in your hand constantly–and it’s part of your everyday outfit whether you realize it or not! Getting a new case is a tiny detail that has a huge impact, so make it a resolution to only have cute phone cases in 2019.

2. Switch Your Hair Part

If you always part your hair on the left, try switching to the right. If you always part on the right, try the left. If you’re feeling really adventurous, consider embracing the middle part! It may take a little time to get used to your new ‘do, but something as simple as changing your part is super refreshing and (thankfully) free.

3. Clean Your Purse

That means inside and out. Toss those old receipts, gum wrappers, and mysterious crumbs as a way to feel refreshed, and clean the outside of your bag with a damp cloth and a little elbow grease to look refreshed. Most scuffs should come out easily, fabric stains will go with a couple blots of detergent and some water, and if you have any holes or tears, it may actually be time to say goodbye!

4. Do A Wardrobe Purge

When was the last time you de-cluttered your closet? It’s the perfect time to put everything off its hangers and donate, sell, or toss everything you don’t need anymore. If you’re unsure of whether or not to get rid of something in particular, ask yourself–have you worn it in the last six months or will you wear it in the next six months? Be really honest with yourself. If the answer is no, it’s time to let it go!

5. Invest in Some Staple Items

Now that your wardrobe is cleaned out, you can start refilling it with some brand new staple items. First, look at what you already wear most commonly and consider if it needs replacing. Next, think about adding some basic items if you don’t already have them. The best part of staples are their versatility and how they’ll stick with you no matter the trend. A good wardrobe should have:

  • A nicely fitted plain white t-shirt
  • Ballet flats in a neutral color
  • A classy blazer or jacket
  • A little black dress
  • Dark-wash jeans
  • A crisp white button-up
  • Black trousers

6. Refresh Your Skincare Products

The year 2019 will be the year you finally start wearing sunscreen every day – and no, the SPF in your moisturizer doesn’t count. Seriously, you should make it a priority to get real about your skincare if you aren’t already! That means removing your makeup fully each night (some cotton pads and micellar water will make it a breeze, just FYI), cleansing twice a day with something gentle, moisturizing immediately, and putting on sunscreen under your makeup every morning.Your skin and pores will thank you.

7. Love Yourself

Okay, you’ve probably heard it a hundred times before, usually from TV commercials that tell you loving yourself involves buying more lipstick. But you can start loving yourself right now, for free! That means accepting yourself for who you are, not who you wish you were. It will completely change your style.

In a world of digital retouching and social media, it’s easy to feel down because of the way you look. But rather than trying to hide, allow yourself to embrace every part. Your confidence will show in how you hold yourself and interact with the world–so loving yourself the ultimate way to refresh your style in this new year!
