What do you call a beautiful young 16 year-old woman who has a 4.0 grade point average, and is a rapper/singer/songwriter/actress/model from London, England? (Boy, what a mouthful!) answer: King Tatie, of course. Born Tatiana Chipondaminga, she is known professionally as King Tatie. King Tatie is one of those special people who have been blessed with multiple talents along with the discipline and wisdom to develop them.

Besides music, King Tatie has a few other interests. She loves school and is a straight A student. She took Advanced Placement classes throughout high school, and will be graduating high school two years early in tenth grade, later on this year. In addition, King Tatie has won awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement as well as awards for music and drama, such as the Victoria Wilson Music Cup and a distinction for Grade 1 Singing from the Association Board Royal School of Music and Drama. King Tatie realizes the importance of education and how much it has helped her throughout her music career, and she wants to encourage kids to stay in school. She thought that the best way to talk to kids about school would be through interacting with them face-to-face, and this is how she ended up doing the Don’t Believe the Hype Youth Summit School Tour, a nationwide school tour in the U.S. which started off in New Jersey and is of now stationed in Georgia for the next few months. The tour takes only a limited number of artists – around four, to be exact – who are making remarkable steps in the music industry and who can be identified as positive role models, and they go around from school to school, talking to the kids about how important education is, while entertaining them with clean, engaging music.

King Tatie has had a busy schedule performing at schools throughout the country, with her personal experience of maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, along with her never ending list of accolades giving her more than enough credibility to talk to students about the importance of staying in school. She has performed in school gyms and arenas ranging from 1,000 to an unbelievable 20,000 capacity of students and faculty. Each time she talks to the students, they are inspired and captivated by her motivational story along with her words of encouragement for the students, and when she performs, she makes it look effortless to engage the whole student body, keeping them on their feet and chanting along with her catchy songs the whole time.

King Tatie doesn’t see why you can’t have good grades and a successful career at the same time. Even though her music career is one of the most important things to her, she puts her education first, because she knows and has experienced first hand the advantages that it can serve if one is to take school seriously. King Tatie feels that everything, including your dreams – can come true if you work hard enough, and she is showcasing exactly that.
