In the late 90’s model Ria Schumacher was involved in a high-profile murder case when she was just seventeen.She went for a ride with her brother and mother’s boyfriend that turned out to be a drug deal that ended in murder. She served twelve years of a twenty five year sentence before the judge decided she didn’t have any involvement in the murder.
We recently caught up with Ria for an exclusive interview about her modeling career.
Girls Mag: How old are you and where are you from?
Ria Schumacher: I’m 37 years old. I don’t feel like it though. I think being in prison for so long preserved me a bit. I was born in Greenville, Illinois.
Girls Mag: How did you start modeling?
Ria Schumacher: I submitted my photos for modeling opportunities.
Girls Mag: What was your first big break in the industry?
Ria Schumacher: I don’t feel like I’ve had my first big break yet. I’m still working on my portfolio. Being more of an artistic model makes it more challenging to build a solid portfolio. Mine is coming along beautifully. I’ve been lucky to work with an amazing photographer.
Girls Mag: What has been your favorite job so far?
Ria Schumacher: I love the challenging jobs most. Being in rug
Girls Mag: What is your dream modeling job?
Ria Schumacher: To model something from the top of Mount Everest.
Girls Mag: How do you deal with all the traveling required to be a model? How do you cure jet-lag?
Ria Schumacher: I love to travel so any job that requires traveling is a winner for me. It can become challenging to travel because I have children and don’t like to be away from them for very long. I miss them when I have to travel.
Girls Mag: When you’re not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?
Ria Schumacher: Take my kids on new adventures. I love to write and I’m always looking for new places to see and different cultures to experience. This is such a big beautiful world I love learning new things about it as often as possible.
Girls Mag: If you weren’t a model, what would you want to do?
Ria Schumacher: Be an Author. 
Girls Mag: What’s your favorite snack?
Ria Schumacher: Candy. I’m such a sucker for candy. Any kind. Except for sour candy.
Girls Mag: Where is your favorite place to travel?
Ria Schumacher: My best friend calls me Dora the Explorer because I love to travel so much. For me going anyplace new is an adventure. One of my favorite memories so far from my travels would be the mountains in Oregon and Idaho. It’s magical there.
Girls Mag: What is your all time favorite movie and why?
Ria Schumacher: I love Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt. I named my son after the star of the film. Tristan. It’s a movie that tells the story of a man who was like a bear. He was daring and brave and loved by all who knew him. I also loved the time setting. Old time movies are fascinating to me.
